You may have heard of or read about parabens because they're a hot topic in the beauty world right now. More and more, brands are removing parabens from their ingredient lists - but why? Parabens are a type of chemical preservative commonly used in cosmetics and beauty products. While there is still a lot of research being done on parabens and the effect they can have on your body, they do get absorbed into your skin when you use products that contain them. And according to the American Cancer Society , "parabens have weak estrogen-like properties," and increased estrogen levels can potentially increase the risk of breast cancer. Bottom line: studies aren't definitive on whether using parabens can cause breast cancer, but we do know they can make their way into our inner tissues. Here at Stay Beautiful, we think it's smart to be aware of what's in the products we put on our bodies, especially because our skin is our largest organ, and we absorb tons of substances and chemicals through it. So take a look at those ingredient lists, and if you don't like what you see, there are tons of amazing, non-toxic products (with more coming out all the time!) for you to switch it up.
