As we fall back into shorter days and longer nights, it’s tempting to want nothing more than to lounge for hours on the couch with your favorite Netflix series in the back! The beautiful autumnal season brings us many flavorful classics in terms of fall drinks, such as pumpkin spice lattes, chai teas and apple cider.
While it's true some people are on the fence when it comes to incorporating proteins into beverages like lattes, it doesn't have to be scary. Here are some fun, easy fall drinks you can make that have the seasonal spice of autumn and the benefits of protein!
First up is the traditional pumpkin spice latte— we’ve all heard of it, and it’s a classic fall favorite! This drink is perfect when it comes to keeping a sweet tooth at bay, as well as giving you a boost to get through a midday slump.
To make this you’ll need:
1 cup of milk (any kind works perfect)
3 tsp of instant espresso powder
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
1/4 cup of pumpkin puree
1 tsp of pumpkin pie spice
1 cup of ice
Add all of the ingredients into a blender and blend on high until you get the consistency you’re looking for. Once it’s how you like, pour it into a glass and top it with whipped cream and some extra pumpkin pie spice! If your drink turns out too thick, add a little more milk. If it gets to be too thin, add a little more ice and then blend again.
If coffee isn’t your thing, try this pumpkin chai tea. This change from the average latte will set the mood perfectly for a relaxing fall day, and the ingredients to make it are all basic things laying around your kitchen!
⅔ cup of milk of your choice
⅔ cup of brewed chai tea of your choice, unsweetened chai tea concentrate works as well
2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree
½ teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice
1 teaspoon of maple syrup, agave syrup or honey
1 scoop of your vital proteins
Over medium-high heat, combine the milk, chai tea, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice and sweetener of choice (if you chose to use one) in a saucepan. Stir to combine and bring just to a simmer. After everything is mixed, remove from heat and enjoy! For a really frothy beverage, pour tea mixture into the container of a blender and blend until fluffy.
If you’re looking for a change besides pumpkin flavoring when it comes to your beverages, try a maple cinnamon latte! This is fall in a mug with its perfect blend of sweetness, spice and zing from the coffee, as well as nutrients with the vital proteins.
To make this, all you’ll need are:
1 scoop of your proteins of choice
¾ cup of any milk
½ cup of coffee (brewed as strong as you like)
1 - 1½ tablespoon of maple syrup
¼ tsp cinnamon
Pour your milk into a medium-sized mason jar and screw on the lid. Shake for 10-15 seconds until foam starts to form at the top. Afterwards, remove the lid and microwave the jar for about 45 seconds — or until milk is hot and foamy. Keep an eye on the milk as you microwave to keep it from bubbling. Pour the hot coffee into a mug and stir in the maple syrup and cinnamon. Top with the frothy milk, spooning the foam onto the top. Sprinkle with some more cinnamon, and if you want to get extra decorative, add a cinnamon stick or two!
